Justice Thomas P. Mann will unveil the secrets of practicing before the Virginia Supreme Court by sharing his tips and pointers on how to be the most effective advocate before the highest court in the Commonwealth. This presentation will conclude with a question-and-answer session for participants to ask anything they want to know about serving as a Virginia Supreme Court Justice and appearing before the Virginia Supreme Court.

The Honorable Justice Thomas P. Mann began his service on the Supreme Court of Virginia in August 2022. Before his election by the General Assembly to the supreme court, Justice Mann was a judge of the Fairfax Circuit Court and the 19th Judicial District’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. He earned a bachelor’s degree from New York University and his law degree from the American University College of Law. Justice Mann serves as the Chair of the Virginia Lawyers’ Wellness Initiative, where he oversees the collaborative efforts of the Supreme Court of Virginia; the Virginia Law Foundation; the Virginia State Bar; statewide, local, and specialty bar associations; and Virginia’s law schools to provide education and assistance to judges, lawyers, legal staff, and law students regarding professional health and wellness initiatives, with a specific focus on improving mental health and addressing substance abuse in the legal profession.
